Paul Hanscombe needed help to be more organised. A locksmith, running a busy Local Authority contract and offering 24 hour call outs, Paul spent a lot of time searching his van for the right parts - often on cold, rainy nights.

After fitting his van with racking specially designed for his business, Paul slashed his call out times in half and saved hours throughout the week.

Results

  • Average call out time cut from 60 minutes to 30 minutes, plus five hours saved on scheduled jobs each week

  • Better visibility of stock levels preventing time wasted on last-minute supplier visits

  • No need to spend Friday evenings preparing the van for the following week - everything is already organised and ready to go

A disorganised van meant wasted time

Until 2021, All Locked Up used DIY racking. Although it kept things off the floor, it wasn’t easy to fix to the van and it didn’t keep things in order.

Because of this, Paul wasted a lot of time digging around, finding parts and clearing space on the workbench. Searching a disorganised van was time consuming. Doing it in the middle of the night, with rain teeming down, was an absolute nightmare.

Bespoke van racking, designed for Paul’s specific needs

Paul came across a YouTube video of Whitebox fitting out a locksmith’s van. Right away, Paul knew it would be almost perfect for his needs.

It was straightforward. Fast response. Designs done quickly. Changes turned around the same day. Then it was signed off and ordered.

It arrived when Whitebox said it would. Paul dropped his van off in the morning and by the end of the day it was done. One day installation.

Yesterday, one of my blokes didn’t have a cylinder of a certain size. It’s a basic thing we carry. So he had to leave the job and drive over to the suppliers to get some more locks. Probably cost him an hour.

Now, Paul’s day is easier and smoother. He has drawers and shelving, and everything is labelled. No more digging around trying to find the right bits and pieces.

The time saving is nothing compared to the improved smoothness of his operations. He’ll get the other vans done soon - it’ll be easier to keep an eye on stock levels and help his team be more productive.

Plus, it looks impressive, and he gets plenty of compliments. For Paul, that’s important. It gives the customer confidence that he’s doing a professional job and that he cares about his work.

I always get comments from customers. Always. Absolutely guaranteed. As they say, ‘tidy van, tidy mind’
